A tokenised design system with light and dark themes, built in 2018/19. Colour tokens throughout — switch the theme file and all designs update automatically. Also the one that taught me the most important lesson.

How It Worked
Colour tokens defined in theme files. Developers coded components using the same tokens. All designs pointed at the theme file. Switch the theme in Sketch and every design in the file updated in about 30 seconds. First time I'd implemented something like that.
Design System 1
Reflection
Colours, typography, buttons, form fields, calendars, popups, headers, menus — layouts for desktop, mobile, tablet with versioned releases. Not as comprehensive as later systems, but it set the pattern. The lesson: this system doesn't meet AA contrast standards. That directly shaped the edays approach — accessibility as foundation from day one, not afterthought.
