The web app was responsive but not mobile-optimised — too much functionality crammed into a small screen. Clients kept asking for something better. We built a native app focused on what people actually need on mobile: booking leave, logging time, approving requests, checking team availability. 80% of the core functionality, none of the configuration complexity.
This was the first implementation of a completely new design system. When I joined, the CTO wanted a fresh start — the mobile app became the testing ground for new components, patterns, and visual language.
What worked here rolled out to Workflow Builder, then Admin Panel, and eventually the entire front end. The starting point for a four-year modernisation of the whole product.

App Screen 1
Two rounds of user testing with 29 participants across three core tasks: creating leave requests, approving as a manager, and recording overtime. The testing identified specific friction points — button clarity, flow consistency between web and mobile. But every single participant said the app was an improvement over the existing edays interface. Users consistently praised the clean aesthetic and simple interactions.

Functional doesn't have to mean boring. Bespoke Lottie animations guide users through onboarding — smooth, lightweight, polished. When you successfully book leave, confetti celebrates with you.
Small touches that weren't required, but make the app feel considered and human.

4.8-star rating across both app stores. Over 100,000 downloads. Hundreds of positive reviews praising the simplicity and design. Zero one-star reviews — ever. Development was handled by Rising Tyde, an external partner we continue to work closely with as we expand the app's functionality.
